New Star Pupils Visa Credit Card Lets Consumers Donate While They Shop

February 8th, 2011

Star Pupils, the new children’s eye health and safety education program from Prevent Blindness America, has announced the availability of the Star Pupils Capital One Visa Platinum credit card. The credit card provides donations to the program through every purchase made with the Star Pupils Capital One Visa card.

Upon approval, the Star Pupils program will receive: a $50 donation with each card holder’s first purchase, 2 percent cash rewards on gas and grocery purchases and 1 percent cash rewards on all other purchases. The card is available to consumers and also to businesses, including ECPs who would want to use it and also help the cause, PBA said.

Current Capital One card holders may also donate cash and/or their accrued rewards to the Star Pupils at the Capital One No Hassle Giving Site. Capital One covers the transaction costs for every donation so that 100 percent of the donation goes to the Star Pupils program.

“The new Star Pupils credit card is a great way to help the 25 percent of school-age children who have some form of vision problem,” said Hugh R. Parry, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness America. “Just by making everyday purchases, we can help our children to see a brighter future.”

The Star Pupils program was launched in 2010 to help educate parents about the importance of maintaining their children’s eye health as well as stressing the link between vision and school performance. Starpupils.org also houses a unique and easy-to-use comprehensive database for children’s vision care requirements for entering schools.
